EASY-IMP Kicks off!

We are very excited to announce our participation in the EASY-IMP projected, which kicked-off in September. EASY-IMP is a very ambitious project aiming to develop methodologies, tools and platforms for the design and production of personalised products, combining wearable intelligent sensors with mobile and cloud computing.

The EASY infrastructure will enable all interested 3rd parties to offer new services to smart phone users, thus evolving into an open platform of literally infinite applications in many target markets.

More specifically EASY will focus on the following pilot applications:
- outdoor video games,
- personal training,
- functional rehabilitation
- assisted living for the elderly and handicapped

The selected application scenarios will include among other miniature motion, skin-temperature, and skin-conductivity sensors. The project will build up-on existing games, sport and training applications for testing and demonstration purposes, while focussing on the development of the methodological Meta-Product framework. It will develop guidelines and standards, methodologies, and reference-architectures for the design and production of smart garments.

The EUROFIT project

We are very happy to announce our participation in the much anticipated EUROFIT project, which started on the 1st of June 2012. EUROFIT is an intensive R&D project with the vision to unleash the huge potential contained in the increasing number of databases of 3D body scans for the European consumer goods’ industries.
New technologies for the gathering, storage and analysis of anthropometric data (i.e. 3D scanners) have boosted the availability of digital anthropometric resources. Since 1999, over 16 large-scale national body scanning surveys have been conducted around the world (six in Europe) gathering 3D shape data from over 120,000 subjects (~50,000 Europeans). The availability of these data pools has created the opportunity to exploit shape information beyond current 1D-measurement use.

The project's overall aim is thus to implement an online platform and an open framework that enables:
  1. Designers and industrialists to draw useful shape information and use it in their product development processes in an easy and direct way
  2. Database owners to pool the data they already hold and obtain revenues from its exploitation
  3. Third party IT companies to develop new services to reuse pooled data in unforeseen ways
Together with our precious partners, namely: the Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia, Human Solutions GmbH, Össur hf, Iturri S.A. and  Schrittenloher GmbH we have succeeded at receiving funding for this project from the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Program (FP7-ICT-2011-SME-DCL). This has strengthened our belief in the project and enables us to be very optimistic of a successful outcome.
